Free calculators for the cost of registering and running a car in every Australian state and territory.
Rego Costs adds registration, transfer fees, stamp duty, CTP insurance and running costs into one total, so you can see what a car will cost in your state. There are calculators for all eight states and territories, an electric vs petrol comparison, a fuel cost lookup, an EV charging cost calculator, an EV incentives guide, and a tool that compares one car across every state.
Fees come from each state’s transport agency and revenue office pages: Service NSW, Queensland Transport and Main Roads, Service SA, Transport Services, Access Canberra, Department of Transport, Motor Vehicle Registry, VicRoads. Each calculator lists its sources and the date the fees were last checked. Fuel use figures come from the Australian Government’s Green Vehicle Guide (© Commonwealth of Australia, Department of Infrastructure), which we have selected and reformatted. The department has not endorsed this site. Every calculator works the same way in every state, and the results are tested against the fee rules we recorded for that state.
Figures are examples, not quotes. Fees change, often on 1 July or 1 January, and some items, such as CTP insurance prices and public charging prices, vary by provider. Always confirm with your state agency or insurer before you pay.
Tell us. Include the state, the page and what you expected to see, ideally with a link to the official source. We fix errors quickly and update the “last checked” date. See the contact page.
