Compare what an electric car and a petrol car cost to buy and run in Northern Territory over the years you plan to keep them. It uses Northern Territory’s rego, vehicle tax, stamp duty and electric car concession rules.
Compare what two cars cost to buy and run in the Northern Territory over the years you plan to keep them. It uses the same registration and stamp duty rules as the rego calculator, including the electric car concessions. Every starting number is an example, so replace them with your own.
Cost over the period
Petrol
Electric
Plug-in electric cars pay no stamp duty up to $50,000 and 3% of the amount above it, against 3% of the whole price for petrol cars. The concession runs to 30 June 2027.
The electric car gets free registration (it still pays the CTP charge) for the first year. After the concession ends, this comparison assumes it pays the same as a 4 cylinder car of 1,501 to 3,000 cc. That later fee is an assumption, not a published figure.
Insurance, tyres, depreciation and home charger installation are left out unless you add them under servicing or resale.
