See what a learner, provisional or full car licence costs in each Australian state and territory, for each licence term, and how the states compare per year.

How this is worked out
Every fee is the amount the state publishes for a standard car licence, checked on 10 October 2026. Per-year figures divide the fee by the number of years it covers.
Not every state has every term. Victoria has only 3 and 10 years, WA only 1 and 5 years, and the ACT only 1, 5 and 10 years.
Some states set a different fee for a driver’s first licence, for young drivers or for concession holders. Those are noted under each result and are not applied automatically.
Not included: driving lessons, a log book where one is sold separately, and fines or demerit-related charges.
